Overview
EZDial is a shareware product designed for quick and easy dialing of
contacts. It provides an easy to use interface whereby a user simply
points and clicks to dial. It was created using a single dialog box
that encapsulates multiple panels. Therefore, there is no unnecessary
switching back and forth between different dialog boxes. Of course, the
user must have a Hayes compatible modem in order for the program to dial.
The program allows up to 320 contact names and numbers to be stored and
accessed. The contacts appear on speed call buttons. Under normal
operation, the user scrolls through the various panels where the contacts
are listed.

Software Requirements
In order to use EZDial, a system must have Microsoft Word 6.0x installed
and run Microsoft Windows 3.0 up to 3.11. It is anticipated that EZDial
will be ported over to run on Windows 95 as well as Word 7/95.

Main Screen
The main screen is comprised of a dial pad, call mode settings, quick
find, speed call buttons, and relevant command buttons.

Dial Pad
The dial pad is used for manual entry of a phone number. As digits are
pressed, they appear on the small white screen. A user may also click on
the screen and manually type the phone number. Once a phone number is
entered, the user simply clicks on the "Dial" command button to execute
the call. The user is prompted to go off-hook. Then the modem seizes
the line, dials the number, and passes control back to the user.

Call Mode Settings
The call mode settings are used to customize the speed call buttons.
There are four call modes: Dial, Edit/Add, Remove, and Swap.

Dial
This setting is used under normal operation when the user simply wants
to dial a contact either manually or through the use of a speed call
button.

Edit/Add
This setting disables dialing and allows a user to edit an existing
contact or add a new one. The user simply presses this option button
and the speed call button desired. A panel appears with either the
information of the particular contact or a blank entry to be filled in.

The user then proceeds to edit or add the necessary information. When
finished, the information may be stored or the procedure may be canceled
by pressing the "Apply" or "Revert" command buttons respectively. Upon
completion the speed call button chosen is updated accordingly.

Remove
This call mode setting is used to delete an unwanted contact from the
list. The user simply clicks on this option button and the contact to
delete. The appropriate speed call button is then cleared.

Swap
This is a handy call mode setting designed to customize the contacts
associated with speed call buttons. When in this mode, a user can "swap"
the positions of contacts by clicking on the appropriate names to
interchange. This allows the user to place the most frequently accessed
contacts at the beginning of the list.

Quick Find
Since there may be up to 320 contacts (which would comprise 20 panels),
the user may access the quick find utility to search for a particular
string. For instance, the user may type "kyd" to search for any string
that matches words that begin with "kyd." The utility is not case
sensitive (e.g., "kyd" is the same as "Kyd"). Also it does not matter in
what fashion the contact's name is entered; as long as words are separated
by spaces (e.g., a user may enter "George Kydes" or "Kydes, George").

Once invoked and the result leads to a match, the first matching contact
is pointed to by a red arrow. The utility provides the capability for
subsequent searches in case there is more than one match. Once the
search reaches the end of the stored list, the user is informed.

Speed Call Buttons
The speed call buttons provide a mechanism for the representation of
contacts in a manner similar to telephone systems. The buttons function
according to the current call mode setting. In "dial" mode, pressing a
speed call button will dial that particular contact. In "Edit/Add" mode,
contact information may be edited or added. In "Remove" mode, contact
information is cleared from the speed call button chosen. Lastly, in
"Swap" mode, contacts associated with speed call buttons may be switched.

Command Buttons
The command buttons on the main screen are as follows: Dial, Clear,
Cancel, Setup, and About.

Dial
This button is pressed after the user manually enters a number either
through the dial pad or by entering it through the keyboard on the
screen. Once pressed the number entered is dialed.

Clear
This button simply clears any digits entered manually.

Cancel
This button closes the EZDial main screen.

Setup
This button allows the user to configure the program through the following
settings:
COM port where the modem is attached.
Number of speed call buttons to use (multiple of 16, up to 320).
Prefix, suffix, number of digits for local call, and prepending
of "1" for long distance calls.

Install
To install EZDial, double-click the "Install" button below. The
installation program will place the template "ezdial.dot", containing the
macros, in the startup directory under Microsoft Word. If it is unable
to find the startup directory, the user will be prompted. It will also
prompt the user to enter the path to the windows directory and place the
following files on your hard disk:

File Location
ezdial.ini	windows directory
ezdial.lst	windows directory

Once installed, a new toolbar button will appear from which EZDial can be
quickly accessed. EZDial can also be accessed from the menu system
(Tools | EZDial). A third way that EZDial may be accessed is through the
use of accelerator keys. However, the installation program does not create
any accelerator keys as they may conflict with a users customized
environment. It is mentioned here in case a user wants to create a short
cut key in conjunction with EZDial. If so, search for the topic Accelerator
Keys in Microsoft Word Help.
