The Book of Enoch is an apocryphal work dating from a few centuries before
Christ. Prior to the eighteenth century, the book was known only from a
few quotes in the canonical book of Jude, and a number of references by
the early Church fathers (Origen, Tertullian, Irenaus, Justin Martyr and
others). An almost complete Greek manuscript was discovered in Ethiopia
by James Bruce in 1770. An aramaic fragment of the Book of Enoch was
discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947.
