Subject: [*] Analog Helper 1.1 - web server log file tool

Analog Helper is a graphical configuration tool for Analog 3, which is a
free program to analyse the logfiles from your web server. It lets you
control and preview the results of hundreds of settings, and means you
need not touch the complex syntax of Analog's configuration files.

Analog itself tells you which pages are most popular, which countries
people are visiting from, which sites they tried to follow broken links
from, etc... It is the fastest and most flexible such tool available.

Analog Helper also imports your old .cfg files, allows multiple analysis
configurations to be maintained and can automatically create multiple
reports based on specified time periods.

Version 1.1 adds toggles to all rule lists, support for OS 8.5
technologies and more detailed error reporting and warning control.

Here is the latest version of Gammasoft Office, the office program made by
Gammasoft Incorporated, the not-really-a-software-company owned by
12-year-olds!

Read Me

Welcome to Gammasoft Office. Gammasoft Office is the simpler way to office.
It's the beginning of a four-dimensional, Microsoft Office-compatable,
simple multi-function program. Of course, since it's in its development
stages, there is no color, MSOffice compatability, or four-dimensionality
involved.

Gammasoft Office contains seven different programs, each with it's own
functions:

* Gamma Central: simple to-do list and write-only text-only word processor
* GSWrite: simple word-processor with only global style settings
* GS Spreads: simple spreadsheet with 7 columns and 22 rows
* Pre Sents: basic presentation program
* GSBase: little database with only 12 fields per record
* Pict-Sure: tiny little black-and-white MacPaint-based painting program
* R++: our own little version of BASIC.

Subject: [*] Lotto Tracker II PPC version 1.6

Lotto Tracker II uses past lotto result statistics to propose possible
future winning numbers. It can track up to 300 lotto games of almost any
type (from 5/20 to 10/99 and everything in between). Features include past
results import and export, statistics export, graphs, suggestion
self-checking and lots more. With its unique Prorated option, statistics
get real meaning for all the lotto numbers, regardless of which draw they
were introduced. Ships with results history of over 70 popular lotto games
(additional ones FREE). ZDNet Editors' Pick 4-star rating. Available for
PPC and 68K Mac and for Windows.

Requirements: PPC processor, 16 Mb RAM

Changes in this release:
* A new "Check Numbers" feature which lets you maintain a list of number
combinations which you can check against any draw or range of draws.
* A new "Quick Pick" algorithm which fixes a bug that only generated
numbers up to 49 for games with more than 49 numbers.
* Results import now allows you to specify an increment value from 1 to 9
for generation of draw numbers. Helpful for some games which draw twice
weekly where you are only importing the results for one of the draw days.
* The Results window now includes a "Sum" column which shows the sum of the
numbers of each draw.
* The Lottos window now includes a column showing draw frequency (as a
single-character code).
* When checking suggestions you can now optionally disable display of the
progress bar for a slight speed improvement.
* The program serial number and version now display and print on the
Registration Info window and report.
* The type of game (6/36, 7/49, etc.) is now displayed after the lotto's
name in the title bar of several windows.
* Program now ships with the results of over 70 games, many of them up-to-date.
* Other miscellaneous minor bug fixes and improvements.

The program can be downloaded from

MagicalKeys 1.5.3 - Open Finder Items by Magic keys - Freeware

With MagicalKeys, you can "magically" open up to four often-used Finder
items: volumes, folders, applications, documents, control panels, desk
accessories, etc., by quickly pressing down 2 or 3 times the modifier
key (Command, Option, Shift, Control) they are associated with. A Finder
item can be defined as: "anything that is an icon in the Finder".

Assigning a modifier key to the active Finder allows you to switch to
it, and if the Finder is not currently running, it is automatically
restarted.

You can bring up MagicalKeys' control panel at any time, by having the
Caps-Lock key down while double-tapping or triple-tapping any modifier
key.

Requires Mac OS System 7.0 or later (System 7.5 or newer is recommended).

Version 1.5.3 doesn't introduce new features. It merely reflects my
moving to a better ISP, and updates e-mail addresses and web site locations
accordingly, as well as some parts of the documentation.

Subject: [*] QuickStart 1.0.1

A system extension that lets you open applications, documents or folders
through keyboard shortcuts.

Description
QuickStart is a system extension that lets you open applications, documents
or folders through keyboard shortcuts. These keyboard shortcuts are
available throughout all the applications you use. Because you can add all
kinds of items, you can assign shortcuts to run automated applescript
tasks, open websites or write e-mails to specific addresses, etc.
QuickStart currently does not support network volumes or files that are
accessed over an appletalk network.

QuickStart can be easily configured through its control panel, which allows
adding of applications, documents and folders via file dialogs or by
dragging icons from the finder onto it. You can specify almost any
key-combination to start or open an item.

Requirements
¥ PowerMac or 680x0 Macintosh
¥ System 7.6 or higher (some features may require MacOS 8)

Subject: [*] Startup Doubler 2.0J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the Startup Doubler package.

Startup Doubler makes for faster startups! Its software acceleration
compensates for sub-optimal disk performance to make extensions, control
panels, the Finder and startup apps load faster.

*Zap through all those startup icons!
*Save time each time you startup your Mac!
*Startup your Powerbook faster at airports (and everywhere else!)
*Works on any Mac running System 7.0 to Mac OS 8.6
*Savings depend on the specifics of each Mac setup: slower Macs will
benefit the most!

Those seconds spent waiting really add up: Startup Doubler usually makes
startups 20% to 50% faster, depending on the performance of your startup
disk and the number of Extensions, Control Panels and Startup Items in
your System! Startup Doubler 2.0 features a new acceleration method
designed to improve upon version 1.2.1's performance. Depending on
conditions, it may be up to about 30% faster, which makes it the fastest
startup acceleration solution available today! This new version also
makes startup apps load faster, improves times with Virtual Memory,
actively supports multiple Extension Sets, is able to accelerate even
after crashes and disk switches that stumped previous versions, supports
Mac OS 8.6, and more!

It is free to registered users of previous versions.

Tests with Speed Startup 1.0 show its performance to be close
to that of Startup Doubler 1.2.1, but not as fast as Startup Doubler
2.0. Startup Doubler 2.0 saves about 10% to 20% more time at each
startup!

What is PRAM Battery Checker?

PRAM Battery Checker is a program which will inform you if your computerÕs
PRAM battery has died.

What is a PRAM Battery?

The PRAM battery is a small battery inside your computer that allows your
computer to remember certain
settings even when the power is turned off. They have a limited lifetime
and usually last a couple of years,
but can die much sooner.

What can happen if my PRAM battery dies?

Your computer can forget what time it is, forget which disk to start up
from, forget your monitorÕs
settings or not start up at all.

Why would I want to use this program?

If you are a system administrator for a large lab of computers you will
like a tool to help you find the
source of many common problems quickly. Dead batteries can cause a variety
of problems for users. You
may want to place it on your parentÕs computers since it has been my
experience that many parents arenÕt
computer savvy and will work through the problems caused by dead PRAM
batteries as opposed to replacing
them.

Version Master is a client application which shows which software on a
Macintosh is out-of-date and where on the internet users may find updates,
patches, and upgrades.

Version Master compiles a list of all of the software on a Mac. Users
download the current version numbers and update locations from the Version
Master server. The Version Master server currently tracks over 60,000
software titles from 50 countries.

Version Master keeps track of 680xx, PowerPC and FAT versions of software.
It also tracks beta versions of software independently from release
versions of the same software. Software is also categorized by "country
code" so localized versions may be tracked.

As an added bonus, users may indicate that they would like to receive e-mail
notification whenever a newer version of some specific software becomes
available. The e-mail feature requires payment of the annual subscription
fee.

Version Master 2.0 includes eight languages selected from a menu: Danish,

Subject: [C] Mac OS: When is enough enough?

[Q] How do you know if a new OS will make you more productive?
[A] You don't.

I have upgraded OSes for years to have the latest and greatest.
Productivity gains came later. I never have known that a new OS would
make me more productive, and yet, they all have - eventually.

Now, if Apple mucks with the interface and makes it this NeXT thing,
that may change. At that point Windows becomes more Mac-like than Mac.
One only hopes Apple can see this. We have listened to the Apple
doomsayers for years, and they have been wrong. But they will cease to
be wrong when Mac users add to those predictions "and good riddance."

So I say: keep upgrading while the interface is good (i.e. Mac-like),
and then stop. When it all goes to hell in a handbasket, you'll be doing
as well as you can.

Subject: Enough is enough??

May I mention another argument for keeping happy with older versions of the OS?
I still work with 7.1 on a LC-III, with lots of extra memory etc.
This is more than enough for the things I do: mainly text-processing and
type setting. Moving to a newer version would urge me to buy upgrades for
several programs. For example, I have an old version of Quark Xpress that
works perfectly fine and offers me enough functionality. I do not have the
resources (nor do I feel the need) to update Quark to the present level, but
even this old version of mine does not run under Mac OS 7.5.
I have a very stable system now and absolutely no desire to change that.

But..... the outside world forces me to consider an upgrade of both hard and
software: I'd like to subscribe to the internet facilities my TV cable company
is offering and they only provide that for Mac OS 7.5 upwards. So either I have
to choose for an OS upgrade with an additional several thousand US$ to update
my software, or accept the awfull situation of having multiple versions of the
OS on one machine, using one for internet applications and another one for my
installed software.
