Subject: [*] bolo-map-4-isles-of-doom

4 Isles of Doom is my favorite map of those that I have made. I have
uploaded one other map, Island of Imperialism, to the archive, but this is
probably the better of the two. I made some other maps, but I didn't think
them worth uploading to the archive. I actually made the map a few years
ago, but don't seem to have uploaded it, so I am doing so now.

The map consists of four islands. The two larger islands in the northwest
and east are reasonably forested, while the central and southwestern
islands have no trees at all, making it necessary to import trees from the
larger two islands.

The northwest island is the largest and probably the most valuable island
of the four. It has lots of forest, which makes many of the bases open to
sneak attacks. It has several bases and pills scattered throughout it, but
the best spot is in the northwest corner, where there are four bases and
four pills. However, this little fortress is surrounded by a river and
plenty of swampland, which will make it a little difficult to overtake.
However, once you own this base, you will find it quite defendable. The
eastern island is rather large but consists of mostly forest, although
there are a few bases and pills. There's a nice little island in the center
of the map that contains two bases. It is fairly open to invasion because
its location in the center of the map makes it rather accessible, and may
be on the front lines. However, it's defended by shallow water, which
causes spiking to take a little extra effort if you put some pills on it.
By the time your enemy gets onto the island, (s)he will be well within the
range of your pills. The southwest island is really just a large maze with
several bases and pills. It could be a nice fortress, but it doesn't have
any trees, so you need to import them from somewhere else in order to build
defenses. I usually leave this island alone until I am able to make myself
established on the northwestern or eastern islands, but you may find it
useful.

Island of Imperialism

Island of Imperialism is my first really playable map. I made one other, 4
Isles of Doom, which is probably better than this one. However, I still
think that this one is okay. I made lots of other maps as well, but most
were not worth uploading here, so only these two will be uploaded. I
actually made this map a few years ago, but it seems I never uploaded it to
the archive, so I will do so now.

The idea for the island was partially inspired by Everard Island and
partially by Boulley's Bolo Maps, which I liked and which can probably
still be found on the info-mac archive. The island's shape is pretty
generic, about the size of Everard but more rounded. The map is rather
heavily forested, especially in the southeastern parts of the map. There is

Subject: [*] Deskpop 1.0.4

What does "Deskpop" do?
Deskpop is a Control Strip module which lists all volumes, folders and
files currently on the Mac's desktop.
This is especially useful for the (hopefully short) time the desktop is
cluttered.
Folders are displayed with the underline style.
Volumes (a.k.a. Disks) are displayed with the bold bold+underline style.
The Trash is displayed with the bold style.

Selecting an item from the Deskpop menu will open it.
Holding down the Control+Option keys will reveal it in the Finder.
Holding down the Control+Shift keys will move the selected item to the
Trash.
If the selected item is a volume, Control+Shift+selecting will unmount it
and eject it, if it's ejectable.
These key combinations can be modified using the "Deskpop Settings"
dialog, which is accessible from the Deskpop menu item with the same name.

Requirements
Requires Mac OS 7.1 or better, and scriptable Finder (which is integrated
into Mac OS 7.5 and better, I believe).

For more information, please read the Release Notes enclosed.

Thanks,
Reveun Sherwin

It's very useful for normal desktop usage, but is really cool when works,

=46ileT&C has some useful hot keys for changing, on the fly skipping the

also instruct it to ignore during its performance, some kind of files or

Subject: [*] GLMStat 3.2.1;Generalised linear models

GLMStat is a Macintosh-based statistical program for analysing generalised
linear models.
It provides a macintosh interface but otherwise operates in a similar
fashion to GLIM but with less features (most of which you probably won't
miss). Features of GLMStat are

 - spreadsheet style data entry
 - Normal, Poisson, Binomial and Gamma models with appropriate links and
specification of convergence and aliasing parameters
 - Scatter and Residual plots
 - Matrix scatterplots
 - Box and Whisker plots
 - Frequency distribution histograms
 - Descriptive statistics.
 - Output of deviance, parameter estimates, residuals and parameter
correlations
 - Saving of data files complete with all model specifications.
 - printing of data, graph and results.
 - Online Help (under the apple menu) and a brief User Manual.
 - includes example data files for most examples in two of the texts.
 - Installer for PowerPC, 68K or FAT binary versions
 - Individual licences available for $US20. Site licences $US150. World
site licence $US450. Payment in $US through Kagi Shareware.
 - Registration includes free upgrades to version 4.x

Unregistered copies are fully functional except that Save and Save As are
disabled.

This release
Version 3.2.1
 - fixes a bug that caused incorrect calculation of deviances in the Test
and Effects commands when a Poisson model has degrees of freedom corrected
due to empty cells
Version 3.2.0
 - Effect test (ie calculate test for change in deviance from removing top
level terms from model
 - Residual Statistics - Runs Test, Durbin-Watson, Shapiro-Wilk.
 - allow display of title as Sum of Squares instead of Deviance for Normal
models
 - able to include or exclude a row or rows from an analysis
 - much of the changes have been made to allow missing values
 - removed Show All command for Graphs. Points within the current subset only
will be shown. Points with weight=0 will return missing for residuals.
 - allowed saving of contents of Graph and Results windows as files
 - when an observation is weighted out the residual will now be shown as
missing - for standardised residuals if the leverage is one or the scale is
zero the residual will also be shown as missing
 - fixed some cosmetic problems

Subject: [*] Kineticon 1.4.1 - animated icons on your desktop!

Kinetic Creations, Inc announces the release of Kineticon 1.4.1!

Kineticon brings your Mac's motionless icons to life!

Kineticon is a system extension which replaces normal, static icons on your
Macintosh's desktop and in its windows with chosen animated icons.

Kineticon is fully configurable, allowing you to choose which icons should
animate simply by enabling them within Kineticon's editor.

Kineticon Editor (included in the Kineticon package) allows you to create
custom animations which can be made to appear in place of any icon
displayed by your Macintosh.

With Kineticon you will have THE COOLEST hard drive icon on your block!
With Kineticon you will have THE CUTEST trash can icon in your neighborhood!

And remember, if you don't like the included animations, you can easily
make your own!

Changes in version 1.4.1 from 1.4:
* Fixed several bugs related to the support for 32-bit icons which were
introduced in version 1.4.
* Fixed a bug which could cause the Finder to crash on startup.

Some of the changes in version 1.4 from 1.3:
* MacOS 8.5 style 32-bit color icon animations (with transparency) even on
pre-8.5 systems!
* Better System 8.5 compatibility including support for 32-bit icons.

System requirements:
* Any Macintosh with at least a 68020 processor (both 68K and PowerPC Macs
are supported).
* System 7.5 or higher.
* Color (doesn't work in grayscale or black and white, sorry).
* Free RAM: at least 300K. More RAM is needed depending on how many
animating icons are enabled.
* 2 MB of hard drive space (for the extension, editor and animating icon
files).
* Faster Macs (such as PowerMacs) are recommended.

License:
This is a fully-working (not crippled) 14-day, trial version which may be
converted to a normal, non-trial version for only $10.

Subject: [*] mac06-0.95

For Immediate Relase

Munich, Germany, November 21 1998 -- DSITRI today announced a new relase of
its UNIX/POSIX system running on top of MacOS: Mac06-0.95. Mac06 is intended -
but not limited to - learning UNIX, running legacy UNIX software or developing
new software to run on the standard Mac platform.

Mac06 features simple installation and runs in parallel with MacOS (7.x and
later) - either 68k or PPC. The file system maps the MacOS HFS files to a
POSIX namespace, provides device files for terminal windows, serial I/O and a
/proc directory. Mac06 has multitasking capability - even in parallel with
the Finder. The command shell (sh) supports I/O redirection, pipes,
conditionals commands and shell variable substitution. Many useful UNIX
commands like ls, cat, more, fgrep, find, test, expr, mkdir, rmdir, mv, cp,
uuencode/decode, cal are provided. C-Libraries to compile application programs
with Symantec C or Code Warrior are provided.

Although this release is still a beta release, it is already demonstrating how
the system works. Compared to the previous versions, many bugs have been
removed, several functions and commands have been revised and completed,
especially TCP/IP support (nslookup, telnet), tar, uuencode/decode, more,
rmdir, mkdir and a short installation and operation manual has been written.

More information like screen shots, the installation and operation manual,
links to third-party applications, and a download area can be found at
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Nikolaus_Schaller/mac06.html..

Currently, Mac06 is freeware (copyright protected but no shareware fee), but
donations are welcome. Distribution of the software package is unlimited.

About DSITRI: The mission of Dr. Schaller Information Technology Research
Institute is technology innovation by showing that it can be done. To get in
contact, mailto:dsitri@kagi.com.

Navi iRae is a control panel that provides menus, when you command-click in
a window's title region, that lets you navigate through the path of the
file, just like in the Finder. "Navi iRae" just looks for an opened
file with the same name as the window's one.

If it finds several opened files with the same name, it displays a menu
with every file match in submenus.

Some applications, when opening a file, copy its content in a temporary
file, and then close it (eg. Photoshop, Illustrator, Canvas,
GraphicConverter=8A). In version 1.1.x it made them impossible to see for
Navi iRae. But not anymore ! Now Navi iRae now looks for recently opened
files to find them.

v1.2.2 : now Navi iRae can use the new proxy feature of OS 8.5

Subject: [*] SchemeChecker 1.4.2 - Kaleidoscope 1.x and 2.x scheme utility

Abstract:

When Greg Landweber released Kaleidoscope 1.5, he started supporting third
party color schemes. This made it possible for anybody to make their own
schemes and change their MacOS interface completely. But, unfortunately, not
all scheme designers are careful enough to make sure their schemes are bug
free.

To help scheme authors create schemes that had less bugs and would run more
smoothly, SchemeChecker was released. SchemeChecker runs several tests on
your schemes, to make sure you haven't omitted any crucial resources, or
added resources that aren't used at all.

Starting with version 1.4, SchemeChecker is fully compatible with the new,
complex scheme format in Kaleidoscope 2.x schemes. SchemeChecker also allows
schemes built for earlier versions of Kaleidoscope to contain the new
Kaleidoscope 2.x resources, such as desktop patterns, window colors or
cursors, as long as the resource IDs or functionality don't overlap.

SchemeChecker enables you to check all the schemes in any folder (including
subfolders), just one scheme or several schemes which can be selected from a
list. The results can easily be exported to a TEXT file which you can open
in any text editor.

Recent changes to SchemeChecker
-------------------------------
1.4.2 - Nov 20, 1998
   * Minor update to add support for the new resources introduced in
     Kaleidoscope 2.1.1.
   * Some minor details in the lists of MacOS 8.5 icons were fixed.

1.4.1 - Sept 28, 1998
   * Minor update to add support for the new resources introduced
in Kaleidoscope 2.1 and MacOS 8.5.
   * A couple of minor bugs were fixed.

1.4 - Aug 20, 1998
   * SchemeChecker now does a better job at checking schemes configured
to be used only with Kaleidoscope 2.0 or later. It also allows
schemes built for earlier versions of Kaleidoscope to contain the
new Kaleidoscope 2.0 resources in areas where the resource IDs
     don't overlap.
   * Kaleidoscope now checks the "Minimum Kaleidoscope version" entry in
the Colr ID 129 resource for errors.
   * You can now make SchemeChecker automatically fix any unset System
     Heap and Purgeable bits.
   * When you select a different scheme in the Result window, the dis-
played information no longer reverts to the "further info" field.
