Minutes of the Service Location Protocol Working Group (SVRLOC)

As always, we started with a brief overview of the protocol, what we are
trying to do, why we are trying to do it and how we are going to do it.

We reviewed the major additions to the current draft of the protocol
specification:

   o Scope
      - Each DA has a list of scopes
      - Services register with a DA that supports the scope they are
         interested in
      - DAs know about each other's scope

   o Locale and ISO 639

o Multiple addresses per service instance

There was discussion of how the protocol scales and how far it is
designed to scale. It is intended to scale up to a campus. The scope
corresponds to a leaf in the naming service. It is not intended to tell
you about all the services in the Internet. Some kind of netfind could
be built once the attributes for a particular service are standardized.
There must be an understanding of how this could help information
services.

Recommendations were made for additions to the protocol. A section on
deployment of this protocol should be added. A protocol overview
explaining how it can be applied to the specific problems found in the
Internet is needed. The ConneXions article discusses this and it was
suggested that this article be published as a companion document. A
relationship statement to DHCP and other autoconfiguration protocols
should be added. A statement is needed that explains how this protocol
works in relationship to protocols like Mobile IP. A paragraph
explaining how this protocol interacts with DNS should also be added.
