Description of Working Group:

This working group was chartered to extend the RFC 822 message format to
facilitate multi-media mail and alternate character sets. RFCs 1341
and RFC 1342 document the Multi-Media Extensions for Internet Mail.

The working group will work to progress MIME to Draft Standard status
and provide a forum for the review of standards track content-type
specifications and the review of character set extensions to MIME.

 Goals and Milestones:

Done Discuss, debate, and choose a framework for the solution.
Assign writing assignments, and identify issues to be
                resolved.

Done Review the Charter, and refine the Group's focus. Decide
whether this is a worthwhile effort.

Done Review exiting writing, resolve outstanding issues,
identify new work, and work toward a complete document.

   Done Post a first Internet-Draft.

Done Review and finalize the draft document.

Done Submit the document as a Proposed Standard.

Done Post an Internet-Draft for the use of Japanese Characters
                for Internet Mail.

Done Post a revised version of the MIME document as an
                Internet-Draft.

Done Submit the revised MIME document to the IESG for
                consideration as a Draft Standard.

Done Submit the Japanese Character set specification as an
                Informational document.
